Quality and Accreditation
In January 2016, HMC achieved the significant distinction of becoming the first healthcare system across the globe to have all its hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) under the Academic Medical Center accreditation program. In 2019, 13 of HMC’s facilities and services were accredited by the JCI. This included accreditation for the first time for three new hospitals as well as the Hamad Dental Center and Mental Health Service.
The National Ambulance Service, Home Healthcare Service, Stroke Service and Palliative Care, have all received the prestigious JCI accreditation since 2011.
PHCC achieved Diamond-level accreditation certificate in 2021 from Accreditation Canada International (ACI), the highest level of accreditation award possible under the program and awarded to highly committed and quality-oriented organizations that monitor outcomes, use evidence and best practice to improve services. The diamond level accreditation followed PHCC’s platinum level accreditation obtained in 2014.
HMC gained Planetree International Certification for Excellence in Person-Centered Care at 5 facilities, formally recognizing the highest levels of achievement in person-centered care.
Three World Health Organization Collaborating Centers have been designated in Qatar:
HMC’s Department of Geriatrics and Long-Term Care - WHO Collaborating Center for Healthy Ageing and Dementia (2023).
HMC’s Tobacco Control Center - WHO Collaborating Center for Treating Tobacco Dependence (2017).
Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar - WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Epidemiology Analytics on HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Viral Hepatitis (2020).
