Implementation Approach and Timeline
Implementation of Qatar’s national Continuing Care Strategy needs to be coordinated by an appropriate national continuing care body. In order to ensure success, all stakeholders will need to work to a coordinated implementation plan, with a high level view of clinical developments supported by organizational development and investment in infrastructure. However, it is suggested that ‘top down’ planning is exercised appropriately, with greater focus on a process of small steps evolving quickly as the engine for implementation, starting in areas where there are already the relationships, workforce and infrastructure to make quick wins. A rigorous quality improvement approach is recommended with regular feedback around real improvements for patients. A high-level, 5-year implementation schedule is shown below.
The indicative costs associated with implementation of the National Continuing Care Strategy over a 5 year period are outlined below.
Capital costs associated with expansion of alternative care settings have been excluded from these estimates.
