Eyesight
More than 285 million people with low vision globally were classified in 2010, 39 million of whom are blind. Blue water (glaucoma) is the main cause of bilateral blindness in Qatar (39%), while the visual impairment rate is about 15% of all disabilities.
Health repercussions of visual impairment
It is possible to avoid 80% of blindness of all kinds through prevention or treatment, and the percentage of uncorrected refractive errors (42%) and cataracts (33%) are the two factors most likely to avoid blindness. People who are blind do not usually have the ability to perform daily tasks without assistance, and therefore they need significant support from family members or caregivers. Blindness and blindness also have a major impact on the quality of life for individuals, and their families and those who provide them with health care are under stress.
Health goals related to vision:
- Preparing comprehensive and effective educational programs on eye health and providing medical examination services to populations at risk of vision impairment to reduce the prevalence of blindness
