New specialist services
The public health sector has implemented a range of virtual and telemedicine services to provide convenient access to services and support. These include the National Mental Health Helpline (and virtual women’s service); Urgent Consultation Service; telemedicine outpatient consultations; and medication delivery.
PHCC has expanded the range of services offered to patients, with a greater focus on health and wellbeing – these services include the National Adult Oral Health Screening Program; Psychology Support Clinics; Annual Health Checks; and Nutrition and Smoking Clinics.
The Qatar Rehabilitation Institute opened the first Geriatric Wellness Clinic in January 2021, to provide integrated medical, rehabilitation and psychological care for the elderly.
The Daam Specialized Care Center was opened in 2020. The specialist facility provides round-the-clock care to elderly Qatari patients who no longer need to be in hospital but require long-term, inpatient medical care.
Implementation of midwifery led services in the health public sector including antenatal clinics, intrapartum care and re-enforcement of midwifery postnatal home care program and increased the percentage of women who receive midwifery care at different stages in their pregnancy.
Ten integrated clinics for tobacco dependence treatment and cessations services have been established and opened in primary health care and hospitals.
HMC’s opened the Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center in 2022 – the first center of its kind in the region, providing expert care for children with long-term needs.
The 24-hour Urgent Care expansion continued at PHCC in 2022 with the introduction of Pediatric Urgent Care at Umm Slal Health Center in August and Al Mashaf Adult Urgent Care in November.
Pediatric Dental Specialty Clinics were launched in 19 primary health centers in November 2022. A Dental Patient Assessment Service (triage service for walk-in dental clients) also launched at all health centers at the beginning of 2022.
An Integrated Older Adult Psychiatry clinic was launched at Umm Slal Health Center in October 2022 and a new Adult ADHD Transition Clinic in Rawdat Al Khail Health Center in May 2022. A new Integrated Psychiatry Clinic opened in Rawdat Al Khail in October.
