Qatar achieved World Health Organization “Healthy City” status in 2022 for all eight municipalities, becoming the first country in the world to achieve this status for all its municipalities, in addition to similar awards for Qatar University and Education City. The Healthy City program in Qatar serves one of the strategic projects under the “Health in All Policies” priority within the second National Health Strategy (NHS) 2018-2022.
Healthy active aging is promoted through establishment of Wellness Clinics, Falls and Orthogeriatric Clinics and implementation of WHO ICOPE screening program.
The Ministry of Public Health launched phase four of the "Start Now" campaign, to reduce the consumption of sugar, salt, and fat and how to read food labels
The National Mental Health Program Team in the Ministry of Public Health collaborated with Hamad Medical Corporation and Primary Health Care Corporation to launch an educational program to promote mental health and wellbeing in Qatar. The ‘Ma’ak’ National Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative is designed to provide education and awareness programs targeting different population groups and aims to reduce stigma attached to mental health conditions.
Through the programs of the second National Health Strategy 2018-2022, Qatar has achieved improvements in several important health areas, including:
More than 5% reduction in the prevalence of dental caries among children
More than 10% increase of exclusive breast feeding of infants aged 0-5 months
60% of government and semi-government organizations now have access to an occupational health-based workplace wellness program.
